COLUMNZ'S & PILN'S "VISIONS"

Stone Malone Gallery Presents

"VISIONS"
A Dual Exhibition By COLUMNZ & PLIN

Opening Reception Friday, December
5th 2014.

COLUMNZ 's artwork constantly explores the intersection of architecture and street art. Ideas of scale, form, pattern, repetition, figure and statements on Western/pop culture are expressed in a series of models, proposals, paintings and illustrations.

PLIN emphasizes the communicative and expressive qualities of street art and graffiti. His family of ever changing characters borrows from traditional fine art, indigenous art, street art and graffiti. Plins art connects with passers-by as a call to personal expression within the vacuum of urbanity.

Jointly, COLUMNZ and PLIN reproduced an alley within the gallery by drawing on the walls at 1:1 scale. The alley, which is normally an afterthought and addition to the backside of architecture becomes the foreground and backdrop for the display of art. The conditions under which street is secretly produced are publicly rendered for general consumption.

"SMEAR" aka Christian Gheorghiu's "SCUMNASTY STRIKES BACK"

Stone Malone Gallery is pleased to present our upcoming solo exhibition featuring all new works by legendary street artist, SMEAR aka Christian Gheorghiu. Having shown in galleries all over the world, SMEAR makes his triumphant return to Los Angeles in only a way he can...

"SCUMNASTY STRIKES BACK"

SMEAR's visceral, highly personal style of painting emulates the messy workings of the total-information age, layering forms and images with powerful, slashing brush strokes of rhythmic, unifying admixtures and improvised, frenzied lines coupled with brilliant color to achieve a simplified language. SMEAR counters his free, muscular brushstrokes by loading his paintings with rags and tatters of cloth, reproductions, fragments of comic strips, and other collage elements of waste and discarded materials to convey maps of mental states.

Wrestling with ways to make a mark despite the dismaying potency of mediated imagery and the inescapable codes of representation, SMEAR paints in two or more styles at once, often in the same painting, denying the absolute rightness of any canon of beauty or truth, scavenging and mingling imagery almost as promiscuously as the media. Picking and adding ingredients to his taste he works the surfaces over with paint in the characteristic, spontaneous gestural language of action painting.

"Exuberance" by Cecilia Romero & "Audible" by Gianni Arone

Stone Malone Gallery presents, Cecilia Romero's " Exuberance" and Gianni Arone's " Audible."

Cecilia Romero is a passionate, self-taught artist from Los Angeles California who has been exploring drawing and painting since she can remember. Cecilia specializes in portrait art with the intent to capture the life and true, raw emotion that resides inside people. The spirit of life is what ignites the creative flame that sparks inspiration for her dramatic, colorful portraits. She loves to capture the uniqueness that's within all living things and really brings that spark to life by using colors to embrace the energy of what the feeling is. When combining her own style of portraiture with mural art, she embraces it by using the huge necessary scale to cover a wall. Her murals beautifully capture the detail of how she uses abstraction with color while still capturing the complexity of realistic emotion. More of Cecilia’s work of her murals around Los Angeles can be seen on her instagram page.

https://instagram.com/cecilia_paints/

Gianni Arone is a self taught multi-disciplinary artist based in Los Angeles. An online marketing veteran of 10 years, Arone left his previous line of work to better afford himself the time to create original works of art. Gianni embraces a wide range of mediums, yet his work remains completely distinct, demonstrating his ability to intuitively create in a multitude of forms. These include large-scale graffuturism murals, densely layered mixed media works, emotionally charged sculptural assemblages, and poignant and whimsical works on paper. Elements of music, text and film also work their way into Gianni's creative constructs. His small scale pen and ink illustrations have opened a new door—a wondrous evolution from his large scale murals and artwork. These intimate whimsical creations are filled with his unique and signature style; using ink comprised of fine lines and stippling; an art form arising from 18th century dutch art masters. An adaptive creative process is fundamental to Gianni's artistic practice. Works often begin with a singular image, texture, feeling or text and take shape naturally by way of channeling the hand/eye/mind that contains a sacred knowledge and un/ common sense. Favoring found materials, steeped in history and meaning allow for chance encounters, shifts of direction, and veiled messages to permeate his creations. Gianni's recent participation with Red Bull Curates 2014 initiative received acclaim as People's Choice selection with his artwork "I NEVER RAN IN MY DREAMS, I FLEW—an amalgamation between Arone's spoken word, illustration and painting.

Surrealist Artist Debuts March 30 On Melrose Avenue

After 20 years in hiding, surrealist artist Stone Malone announces first public exhibition

To mark the twentieth anniversary of “Masterpiece,” artist Stone Malone will be publicly exhibiting his work for the first time.

The Stone Malone Gallery, located in the heart of the world-famous Melrose District, launches this month with the One + 2 exhibit, a series of pieces from across the artist’s mixed-media collection of oil paintings, ink-and-pencil drawings, and photographs.

http://www.stonemalone.com

On Saturday, March 30 from 9 p.m. to midnight, the gallery will host the first of a monthly series of public events to introduce the artist and his work to the public. Raffle tickets are $35 and will include drinks, an autographed poster, and a chance to win an original Stone Malone oil painting.

Best described as a surrealist with a comic-book flare, Malone has developed an underground cult following for incredibly detailed and elaborate paintings that are recreations of his early work in ink-and-color pencil. His art is also known for bold experiments in color and his trademark use of eyes. The artist created many of the works using a unique 360-technique so that each piece could be rotated multiple times and appreciated from many angles.

"My art is pop art, not the wine and cheese sh*t. They say the average time looking at a piece of art is about 3.5 seconds. I'd love to see them say that about my stuff!” Stone Malone says. “My favorite complement was being called ‘The Cartoon Picasso.’”

Stone honed his art for more than twenty years, quietly gaining a cult following despite never publically displaying his work. After pressure from family, friends and fans, Stone felt that the twentieth anniversary of his first creation, “Masterpiece,” was the time to make his debut.

The Stone Malone Gallery is located at 7619 ½ Melrose Avenue in the heart of the Melrose District. Gallery hours and more information are available at StoneMaloneGallery.com.
